National Service Scheme
NSS has been a part of our university since 2004. Students from all the streams actively participated in various programs conducted under the ages of NSS. Up til now two blood donation camps and three 2-day NSS camps (UGC sponsored ) were organized. Besides this one 10-day camp was also organized in the campus. The grant for these camps provided directly from NSS department of GNDU, Amritsar and from the Department of Life Long Learning GNDU, Amritsar. In Blood donation camps were organized with help of Civil Hospital, Gurdaspur in which 100-120 units (approx.) of blood were collected. It is constituted of a number of students , professors and other campus executives. NSS regularly organizes Blood donation camps, public service campaigns , and many other campaigns for the service of the local residents.
During special camps the volunteers engage themselves in physical labor also and help in such activities as road repairs, earth work for roads, whitewashing of school buildings, taking care of cremation grounds, eradicating congress and tree plantation. The NSS volunteers create awareness about social problems like population explosion, pollution, importance of girls child, evils of dowry system and harmful effects of drinking, drugs and other intoxicants. As the theme of NSS for this year is “Youth for Haryali” special care is being taken for the plantation and protection of planted trees. The University has 20392 NESS Volunteers enrolled for the year 2001-2002 as against the sanctioned strength of 19500 which is again largest in Punjab for a University. NSS has been very active since its formation and is a better portal to show your affection towards the service of the people.
